Synopsis:

Austin is an 8-year-old boy with autism.  He loves the public art sculpture display, “Brighton Biennial” in his town of Brighton, Michigan.  He can name all the art pieces and these artists.  After school, he and his mother, Faith, go downtown to photograph the display and make sure that all the sculptures are sound and safe.  However, the town’s conservative reaction toward the modern art breaks this innocent boy’s heart.  What does he think when he sees some these sculptures that he loves to photograph being vandalized?

Thank you for sharing this amazing story. I love Austin's response to "what autism is" "It means you are doing something great". That is so powerful. This film and Austin's circumstances is one more example of why the arts and art education is an important content area for all children and adults to be exposed to and thrive in. — Feb. 26, 2010, 9:50 a.m.
