Director's StatementBrian To's background as a pro photographer inspired his approach as a film director quite a bit. To says, “My approach has always been about ‘the moment’. I enjoy distracting subject and actors away from their self-consciousness. I do not like pretending I am some all-knowing genius who directs people to do precisely what I think is right. There is no right, and it is often what people consider mistakes that are the most beautiful. I do not limit or control things, but simply create a free environment which allows subjects to enjoy the purity of the moment as it happens, with no anticipation, no vanity, and no judgment.”

AUDIT marked Brian To’s debut as director of a narrative at the IFP West / LA FILM FESTIVAL in April 2001. Since then, AUDIT played at more than seventy international film festivals, and won the Audience Award for Best Short Film at the 2001 WIN Femme Film Festival. AUDIT stars Sally Kirkland, Alexis Arquette, Judy Greer, and Michael Kelley. It won the Best Film Award at the 2003 Dublin Film and Music Festival. His lead actress, Judy Greer, also won the Best Actress award for the festival.
