Synopsis

Life is short. “Breakfast with Lolo” shows how a grandson ultimately lives life to the fullest with his grandfather as they go on an adventure in search of the most delicious pancakes for breakfast. This story is based on one of the most memorable experiences Steven Flor had with his grandfather before he passed away. And this short film depicts that special bond between them.

"This is a touching story. Love it! It is a priceless masterpiece!"

"This is poignant and sentimental and displays the Filipino culture at its beauty...yet simple and straightforward technically. I see why this won. Bravo!"

"Congratulations on successfully telling a heartwarming loaded story in five minutes. On to the Oscars!"

"'Breakfast with Lolo' is on a league of its own. Part tribute and part advertisement, Steven Flor’s short tells a delightful anecdote of a grandson taking his grandfather out for pancakes… and what glorious towers of pancakes they are. After viewing the movie, I had the sudden urge to check out Trigo Café in Diliman."

"For what it was, "Breakfast with Lolo" was really entertaining, sweet and touching. It is hard not to fall in love with it, or be connected with the story. The ending was light, even though the grandfather eventually died. It was touching because of the honest, heartfelt and sincere bond between grandfather and grandson. But I could not shake off the feeling that at times I felt that it was a commercial for "Pancake House" or something. At times I felt that the logo of a restaurant will just pop or something. But then again, all were compensated with how personal and heartfelt it was, and I can not deny the fact that I was touched."

"Life is complicated as it is. Film director Steven Flor gives Filipinos a simple heartwarming short film, Breakfast with Lolo, which is also one of the short film entries at Cinemalaya 2010. Nicco Manalo (grandson), Gonzalo Misa (grandfather), and Abel Napuran (father) joins the cast. It is based on the real life relationship of director Flor and his grandfather." - The Manila Times
