James Watkins- Director of 'Eden Lake' Re: FW:‏ From: WATKINSJT@aol.com Sent: 04 December 2009 17:35:28 To: snake87sw@msn.com “Hi Scott, Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. Been on a deadline with my Warner Bros script. I finally watched CONTAINMENT. I thought it was well shot, lit, acted. Confident opening. Effective use of sound. Particularly liked the body horror aspect. My issue would be pacing- perhaps you're a little caught between arthouse pacing and commercial pacing. Would look to find some tightenings. In terms of who to send material to, try the UKFC website. In terms of financing they are the best place in town. what people are really looking for are scripts. If you can show people a showreel with a script, that's your best chance at getting a gig. Good luck! James”

Email from Ben Templesmith- Artist of 30 Days of Night Sent: 19 January 2010 09:24:23 "Scott, Just watched, lovely freaking stuff. All looked really pro to me! Especially loved a few of the shots/cam angles used. I'd say the lense was worth it. Cheers for showing."

This was a project of love, for a genre I both enjoy and respect. This is why two thousand pound of my own money was put forward to finance this film. It was also filmed off coarse, with a great many friends doing me favours.

Certain films than can be credited for their influence and inspiration include: Saw, 28 Days Later, and Evil Dead. I would like to specifically credit the director Robert Rodriguez and his vision for recapturing the Grind house genre in the film Planet Terror. This was a direct influence for Containment, to recreate a gritty and graphic aesthetic, full of sick thrills to terrify an audience.
Atmosphere and tone were essential for this film; closely capturing the isolation and fear a character would experience during such a morbid situation. Minimal locations and budget were used to my advantage to portray this style of film. There is also a certain undercurrent of political cynicism as government oppressively implements such a containment order. This subtle theme roots itself as an undertow, furthering the complexity of the piece.

I was very aware not to explain too much to an audience. The reasons for this were that generally as a genre, horror, works best without explanation but also because of an audiences pre conceived ideas about the genre (especially zombie films). I assumed that an audience would pick up upon the genre conventions and leave any back-story for assumption.
