A love story about a young African couple that takes place in the slavery era at the turn of the XIX century on a Caribbean Island.
SynopsisViolently seized from their African homeland, Marcos and Carolina arrived in chains in crowded, sweltering cargo holds aboard Spanish vessels to a Caribbean island.
Don Pablo, a malevolent landholder, acquired Marcos through a public auction. By uncertain circumstances he later acquired Carolina.
At Don Pablo’s farm, a new pathway was being built to connect the sugar mills which required a lot of hard work. The slaves were then forced to work very hard in cruel and inhuman conditions.
Marcos, in spite of his harmed body and soul, withstood the slavery condition due to his excellent physical strength and intelligence. After several futile escape plans and understanding the expected punishment, Marcos, following the advice of a wise and mystic slave, finally escaped. After this event, he became one of the most sought after black cimarrones at the time. He not only fought for his freedom but also for his beloved Carolina.
