It's 1938, a time when the old Southern code, the right the honor of one's family, was still unwritten law. Albert Turner has broken that law.

Synopsis

Love, Betrayal and class conflict disrupt a small East Texas town as a young man from a prominent family returns to face the consequences of a past affair with a local girl from the wrong side of the tracks.

Director's Statement

This was my thesis film for the NYU Grad Film program. Why I chose to make a period film as a student thesis is beyond me, but it worked out pretty well. In addition to the Gold Award for Best Student Film at Worldfest Houston, the film was sold to BBC-2. Of special note is the fact that a young Will Oldham is in the film playing Benjamin Wilder. He was the kid preacher in John Sayles' "Matewan", has been in several independent films, and is now a well known musician AKA "Bonnie Prince Billy". The story is based on an incident that happened to a Great Uncle of mine way back when in East Texas.
