A comedy about a Beauty Queen who goes on a date with her geeky Cyber Stalker so that she can be the subject of a documentary.
SynopsisHong Kong's battle of the sexes is fought between the geeky guys who love their computers and "Gong Neui", who are more interested in designer clothes and being seen on Facebook than sex and romance. A documentary maker decides to see what would happen if a typical Geek and Gong Neui were brought together for a date, with complicated consequences when one of the girl's more psychotic girl friends decides to tag along.
Director's StatementThis film was fun to make. I met JuJu at party and she said we should do something for the I Shot Hong Kong festival, deadline in one week's time! Never one to shirk a challenge I wrote the script the next day, cast it the day after, and we were shooting and editing it over the next four days. We managed to meet the deadline and get picked as a finalist. The fact that it was shot in Cantonese by an Englishman seemed to cause some confusion, as people could not quite believe that I shot it. The situation is very Hong Kong and the jokes and humour owe a little to the local Cantonese comedies, with perhaps an overlay of British humour. I tell people it is a Cantonese movie for English speakers. I'm sure that with a bit of money and time, we could have made a more polished piece, but then perhaps it would not have been as much fun making it. And maybe not as much fun to watch.

Camera, Sound, Transport, Catering, Editing, Music...: Lawrence GrayThe film was a crowd pleasing "I Shot Hong Kong" finalist. The competition runs every year in Hong Kong as encouragement to the local independent film makers and an enticement to others to come an film in Hong Kong.
I shot this using a PMW EX1 and edited it in Final Cut. I used radio mikes to deal with the sound, which given the one man crew and real and very noisy locations was probably a very sound decision. It gave us a lot of freedom to just go out and do it.
Looking through the list of movies that I'm supposed to choose as "Similar" I can honestly say none of them are. You have to watch a few Hong Kong movies to get some inkling of where some of the ideas come from.
