A young polish immigrant, Gosia, delves deep into her imagination to overthrow the punishment she receives at the hands of a cruel headmistress at her Catholic School.
SynopsisPolish emigre, Gosia, an awkward 7 year old girl who barely speaks English, is the new student at a Catholic school. With a vivid imagination, Gosia escapes into her fairy tale story "Baba Yaga and the Wood" when faced with turmoil. Gosia proves she has real gumption when she uses this imaginary world to find strength to stand up for herself when she is unjustly punished.
Director's StatementAfter graduating from Cornell University with a degree in Architecture, Dominika Waclawiak spent several years working at top design firms in New York City, garnering accolades including an AIA-NY 2000 Design Award for Interiors. Wanting to translate her skills into film design, Dominika began working in the art department of "Flawless" under the skilled direction of Production Designer Jan Roelfs (two time Academy Award Nominee (Gattaca, Orlando) and Art Director/Production Designer Sarah Knowles (The Notebook,Invincible). This experience led to production designing/art directing various independent shorts, music videos and spots for such companies as Nickelodeon, MTV, and Good Machine. In 2008, Dominika was one of eight women selected from over two hundred applicants to participate in AFI's Directing Workshop for Women. Originally called The Raffle Ticket, "Gosia's Witch" is Dominika's third short narrative film in which she brings together her knowledge of design, visual effects and storytelling to help her tell this unique fairytale.
