Sci-Fi Fantasy journey of a little girl with a special pet friend, a huge toad.
SynopsisThis is a Sci-Fi Fantasy journey of a little girl with a special pet friend - a huge toad. During their play, the girl and the toad come upon a magic box in a fairground. The magic colors the girl's clothes, but transforms the toad into a baloon. This baloon drifts away from the girl, and she is going through different adventurous scenarios chasing it. This is a full 3D animation music video for the song 'Hey' by Eatliz.
Director's StatementThe video, just as the music, are both built on complex beats that evolve and break in a very organic yet precise way. The video’s editing also compliments this style, cutting rapidly during fast action sequences, and letting the eye rest just enough before the next outburst of chaotic events.
The transitions between different locations and time periods are blended sometimes through a special cut and sometimes through motion. These help carry the viewer’s eye into a whole new scene, while still maintaining a sense of continuity of mood and consistency from the previous one.
The story and art of this video bring together a fantasy world with realistic everyday motifs, some of which are quite unorthodox for today’s common animation world (– a little girl peeing in the street, or a sardine that leaps out of the sardine can as it opens, only to be cut in half and its blood smeared as lipstick.)
The heroine of the story – a little girl with a giant toad as her pet and best friend goes through fast – paced adventures and conflicts. Once the action starts, the adrenaline is pumping and soon enough the ride goes out of control.
The music video utilizes 128 shots in 03:26 minutes, and although it is an independent production, it follows the same production principles used in today’s major CG studios.

"Hey" is the second animation music video from Eatliz. In the heart of this music video is the story of growing up and losing your childhood innocence. Our protagonist is a lonely little girl. The lack of a father figure in her life made her embrace boyish characteristics, often acting as a rascal tom-boy. Her inner world revolves around imaginary friends. One such friend is her best friend - a huge toad that never turned into a prince. Another is a balloon that blows up eventually, symbolizing the end of her childhood fantasy world. The girl moves between rapidly changing conflicts, and the clip is edited accordingly; utilizing 128 shots in 03:26 minutes.
The concept for the video first came up in March 2006 and took two years to be realized. Fifteen people were involved in the process of making the video, all of them top professionals in animation, art and 3D design in Israel.
The production pipeline was set up following the principles and workflow of major animation studios. No step was skipped in the process, from script writing to design, modeling and character development, followed by a painstaking animation process. All of the above was completed under the direction of Guy Ben Shetrit by Art directors (Eithan Weinshtock, Sherban), Model artists (Paul "Jones" Wolf, Sherban, Rafi Ben Aharon, Daniel Shneor and Ben Shetrit), Animators (Talia Tsur, Tom Dor, Ron Golan and Ben Shetrit) and Technical direction and Rigging (Matan Halberstadt, David Gidali, Yuval Nathan and Ben Shetrit).
The final stages of shading, texturing, lighting, look & feel, rendering, VFX and compositing were done by Aiko Studio.
