A middle-aged college professor plans on buying a second home, ditching his wife, and getting his wife's best friend to move in with him at the new place.
Synopsis"I'm in love!" Emily announces to her friends, the middle-aged couple Abby and Graham. The problem is, Emily's new boyfriend Stuart is in high school and Emily, 30, is old enough to know better. And the other problem is that Graham is madly in love with Emily. He's so in love, he's planning on ditching Abby and buying a second home for he and Emily to live in together. Except he hasn't told Emily yet. Or Abby.
Maladaptive is the story of how a group of people continue to make the same mistakes throughout their love lives, even though they know better.
Director's StatementThe New York Asian American International Film Festival writes, "Chin weaves a tapestry of maladaptive patterns perpetuated by six people who should know better, resulting in a film that would make Woody Allen proud." Well, I don't know about Woody, but I am very proud of this film. Yeah, it looks a lot like "Husband's and Wives", and in it's more serious moments even "Scenes From A Marriage". But this is still a comedy, and there is nothing funnier than watching ourselves being humbled by our own desires. And eternal thanks to the cast and crew. You've helped make Maladaptive a very special film.

The scene with Roger and Abby in bed was filmed in my mother's bedroom. I'll be years in counseling figuring that one out.
