8-year old Sebastien Lamothe was trapped under the rubble of his grandmother's home after the devastating earthquake of January 12, 2010 struck Port-au-Prince, Haiti. For three days he dug, scratched and scraped at the ground trying to free his trapped leg. When he was finally pulled from the ruins, the life he had known would be changed forever.

Out of the Rubble tells the story of 8-year old Sebastien Lamothe. Sebastien was trapped under the rubble of his grandmother’s home after the devastating earthquake of January 12, 2010 struck Port-au-Prince, Haiti. For three days he dug, scratched and scraped at the ground trying to free his trapped leg. When he was finally pulled from the ruins, the life the he had known would be changed forever.

Living in a small tent pitched in the parking lot of Hopital Adventist d’Haiti, a small private hospital, Sebastien and his aunt don’t know what the future holds. Like so many other Haitians their homes were destroyed, all their possessions are under the rubble and money is scarce, but their will to come together and persevere through tragedy is strong.

Through the story of one boy and his family, "Out of the Rubble" shows not only the tragedy of natural disaster, but also the beauty of humankind. Shot in weeks four through six post-quake, primarily on the grounds of Hopital Adventiste d’Haiti, the film is a microcosm for the greater story of the Haitian people.
