Civil war broke out in Kosovo 1999.

Synopsis

Civil war broke out in Kosovo 1999. First, the Serb-dominated Yugoslav Army massacred thousands of ethnic Albanians, until NATO intervened and bombed Serb targets for 78 days, forcing a ceasefire. Then the Albanians took their revenge on the Serb minority before the most expensive peacekeeping mission in the history of the UN began, up to Kosovo's controversial declaration of independence this year. For two years, filmmaker Anne Thoma travelled to Kosovo to follow the lives of three teens struggling to grow up and lead normal lives amid the ethnic strife. Labinot and Lorenc are Albanian brothers whose father disappeared into Serb custody. Since their mother died, Labinot became the head of the family of four brothers. But he dreams of going to Western Europe to earn money. Meanwhile, Milica is a Serb girl who has to fear for her safety every time she leaves the house. Instead, she stays at home and dreams of becoming a pop star.
