The use of a secret room for the torture of political prisoners goes awry.

Synopsis

After 911, a revamped patriot act authorizes the use of ROOM 13, a holding cell for terrorists. Things go awry when the definition of terrorist is expanded to fit governmental whims.

Director's Statement

William Lee is an independent filmmaker in Columbus, Ohio. He has translated his feelings about 9/11 into a screenplay and feature film: “ROOM 13: THE TERRORIST PROJECT”. The plot centers around a hypothetical government program intended to drastically handle terrorism. The results are anything but politically correct. The main character, Vincent Kamiglia, is a lone agent in the mold of Vic Mackey who has the task of directly dealing with terrorist agents. Things go out of control as Kamiglia becomes obsessed and starts to eliminate anyone he considers being evil, or just in his way. The dialogue is of the movie is gritty and runs the course of the post-9/11 debate. The reasons for and against dealing with terrorists are all voiced at one point or another, and that is just fine with the director. “Sometimes, we shouldn’t lead the audience to reach a conclusion we would like them to have,” says Lee. “Moviegoers are pretty smart and they can reach their own conclusions. We, as filmmakers don’t need to spoon-feed them.”

It started out as an independent film on post 9/11 terrorism and not much more than that. Filming in all kinds of weather, the cast and crew wrapped things up in April 2004. It was when the cameras stopped rolling that events made “ROOM 13: THE TERRORIST PROJECT” more interesting. Prison interrogation scenes, intended to be fictional, were filmed several weeks before the Abu Gharib scandal went public. In June, the Federal Bureau of Investigations announced they had apprehended a man who was plotting to bomb a shopping mall in Columbus, Ohio. “ROOM 13: THE TERRORIST PROJECT” was shot entirely in Columbus and within a few miles of retail centers that were probably on the list of targets. The admission by the government that it has several ROOM 13's around the world made it abundantly clear that “ROOM 13: THE TERRORIST PROJECT” has gone from being a futuristic work of cinematic fiction to a predictor of what is to come.
