No matter how many safety nets we have to catch us when we fall, we are still vulnerable to life’s pitfalls.
SynopsisSafety Net is a psychological drama about dependability and trust that intercuts between the lives of a woman trapped in a failing marriage and a man faced with an extreme financial burden. The film examines their reactions in the face of betrayal and injustice, which set them on a collision course for disaster.
Director's StatementSafety Net is a film on the personal politics of communication, dependence and trust. Safety, by definition, is an ambiguous term; it may imply a stable job, a stable income, or a lifelong partner. Conversely, lack of safety, only suggests fear and anxiety. The film through network structure and conflicting perspectives, attempts to take traditional melodrama outside of its traditional domestic space into the social space of a contemporary fast-paced, multicultural society. The personal need for safety intersects with the notion of social security that modern, developed societies prove themselves poor to provide.
