A lonely woman hires a private investigator to find out who she really is.

Synopsis

Marcia, a thirty something New Yorker, has just been dumped once again. Lonely and desperate that she is nobody's type, she hires a private investigator to follow and evaluate her in the hopes that can help her recreate herself into someone a man can love.

Then, while disguising herself, Marcia meets the P.I. only to hear his dismal report of how he finds her to be a self-centered and altogether uninteresting woman, confirming her deepest fears about herself.

The P.I., in reality, a soulful drunk Russian poet, who makes ends meet by taking advantage of the neediness of his clients, watches as a desperate Marcia starts to reinvent herself into a new woman, who tries to impress him at any cost. Igor, in the meanwhile, starts to fall in love with the real Marcia she is so determined to hide from him.

Director's Statement

"Sometime in August" came to me when I hit thirty and realized that I wasn't too crazy with who I had turned out to be. I felt that I didn't really correspond to my own idea of what a good, interesting, and attractive person was. I remembered that I wondered once if I would go out with a guy like me, and came to the revealing conclusion that I would not.

So, the character of Marcia found its way to my mind, a woman uncomfortable in her own skin, who would love to be someone else.

Why to turn my alter-ego into a woman instead of a man, is a question I am not sure I have the answer to. All I know is that my main characters tend to be women, and that perhaps it comes from my belief that it is the female that embodies the life force and the human dilemma.

"Sometime in August" is my first feature film. I hope you enjoy it nearly as much as I sweated making it.
