In a quiet suburban community on Halloween night, a seemingly friendly neighbor grabs a little girl dressed as a fairy, but who tricked who?
SynopsisA dark Halloween night in a quiet suburban neighborhood. Trick or treaters out with their parents. A little girl dressed as a fairy making the rounds alone. Seeing his opportunity, a neighbor snatches the girl, takes her into his basement where their game of cat and mouse begins. And ends.
Director's StatementI've taken no amount of grief for making a movie about a little girl kidnapped by a dirty old man. A woman after the World Premier waited around for 30 minutes to talk to me. Her first comment was, "I hated your movie." I smiled and replied, "Did it make you uncomfortable?" She grimaced and said, "If your purpose was to get a rise out of people, then mission accomplished." And she walked away.
So I guess the question is why did I make it? I wish I had a better reason, but basically I wanted to see what I could do with the material - how I could avoid being cliched and obvious. I'm not sure how much of the layering comes through, but I'd like to think there is more than meets the eye. I didn't set out to make a horror movie, but a fairy tale in the best tradition of Pan's Labyrinth or City of Lost Children. Hopefully people come to see this in that light.
Given that it was programmed as horror in nearly half the festivals and was given a prize for best comedy short, I'm not holding my breath. Nevertheless, I hope people enjoy it.

Two cinematographers, two art directors, a make-up artist, and dozens of actors passed on this project after reading the script. Not because they thought it wasn't going to make a good movie, but because of the subject matter. Not many people want to explore the mind of a pedophile. Fortunately, the people who did ultimately decide to work on the project did so because they loved the script. All's well that ends well.
