This was one of the most ambitious films to come out of NYU film school in the 1980's. The whole movie takes place on a World War II Submarine. We got permission to film aboard the USS Ling in New Jersey. All the special effects were done using fish tanks--shooting on Staten Island sound--and doing model explosions in a pool upstate! There were no computer graphics at that time--all effects were hand made.
