Experimental animation made out of silhouettes

Synopsis

A series of moving images created from various composites of human silhouettes.

Director's Statement

I wanted to create an abstract imagery using human silhouettes. I avoid any pre-planning procedure, such as designing the final looks and/or storyboarding the sequence. I played with the existing imagery, and re-created diverse variations by duplicate, multiply, cut-out.., which was simply lead by the instinct of the moment.

The footage was made out of shadows of two dancers, moving behind the back-lid screen. It was shot on video, then I printed out selected frames. I created various shapes and images by adding drawings or paintings on top, cutting out shapes and re-composing them in layers, then re-exposed them under the down-shooter camera. Images were also multiplied and re-composited in Adobe Photoshop and After Effects.
