An urban tale that questions issues such as the incoherence between the multiple layers of reality.
Synopsis"All You Need is Love" is a movie that is ironic about Brazilian contemporary cinema, today polarized into two genres: violence and life in (slums) ”favelas” and soap-operas. The main character is Sergio, a kid who roams through the streets of a city intriguing yet unknown. In a sort of rite of passage to adulthood, Sergio needs to summon the courage to shoot his first victim in order to gain the respect of his gang. Only at the very end of the film, when he finally gets ready to pull the trigger, the real reason for his mission is revealed. The film's original sound track, inspired by the famous song by the Beatles, is composed by Sao Paulo’s up and coming MCs and rappers. The music is key in understanding the story in an ironic game of references among the two cinematographic genres above. What appears to be yet another film about urban Brazilian violence, reveals itself only in the final rap notes. All you need is love was shot using RED cameras and is a completely independent production.

Length of the shoot: 4 days
Length of production from pre to post: The pre production began 2 weeks prior to the actual shooting, after that the film was frozen for 7 months due to lack of equipment to edit it. When the equipment was bought it took 2 weeks to edit it and 2 more weeks for the audio and post production. All the characters of the film apart from Babú Santana, are not real actors. They are singers and friends, and the story was written based on their own personalities. This was a facilitator to our project as it was not necessary to roll play. With time against us, it was necessary a storyboard to help with the sets.
Budget: This film was an independent production. Therefore, everyone involved on the project worked for free. Amongst acquisition and rental of equipment, transportation of the cast and the crew, catering, art and sound postproduction, it was spent around U$15000,00. Unfortunately, here in Brazil it is still very difficult for new filmmakers to be part of a selected group that monopolizes the money offered by the government as incentive to national productions, these investments stop in the hands of well-established people, impairing the cinema to be democratic in Brazil.
Financing method: With the project in hands and without sponsors, it was necessary to negotiate discounts on the equipment. Important companies in Brazil granted the location for example: Tomie Ohtake Institute. And what was not possible to budget was paid by the director’s private money.
