Weathered

Weather longs for human connection and reaches out the only way she knows how...by making doctor's appointments.
Intended Audience: Family
The film delicately depicts the isolated world of Weather Wellington. The death of her fiancé has left her alone in the apartment they once shared; surrounded by caged animals, piles of unfilled prescriptions, and outdated electronics.
Weather desperately longs to engage with life outside her apartment but has forgotten how to do so. Her only excursions are for doctors’ appointments, as medical exams have become her sole experience of human touch.
Just as Weather begins to lose her last shred of hope, she discovers a friend through a surprising encounter.
The character of Weather Wellington was originally inspired by a trip to my dentist. As I was getting my teeth cleaned, I had an out-of-body experience: “What an odd way to interact with another human being,” I told myself. “For over an hour this woman has touched me, prodded me, and analyzed the entirety of my smile. There are very few people in my life that know me this intimately. I wonder if there are people for whom this is their only means of intimacy?”
That was the seed for Weathered: human contact in the midst of a clinical setting. What would trigger a person to be this far removed from our basic human need? What keeps them trapped in the cycle? What does this say about our community and society that we would allow that person to exist virtually unknown? These are the questions we pondered as we stitched together the intimate tale of a woman trapped time, desperate to regain the love she once had.

We had asked the band "The Innocence Mission" for permission to use their classic song “Our Harry” in the film. They agreed with a resounding “yes!” The lead singer then asked our permission to re-record the song as she felt her voice had matured and would be better for the film. We humbly agreed.
