Some connections transcend a lifetime.
SynopsisA father tries to convey to his daughter a message from another time. A woman returns home after a business trip and discovers a mysterious package. What these two have in common is more than they could have ever known in one lifetime.
Director's StatementWhen Snow Falls is a film which tries to uncover the connections that transcend
lifetimes. It is a film which originates in the landscape of time and memory. A
package mysteriously appears at a woman’s doorstep. Within the package, the
protagonist uncovers old diary entries of a railroad worker from the turn of the
century. He reminisces about his daughter. Who was he? The railroad worker plays
the same instrument as the woman’s own father.
The music of the ancient Chinese zither, or guqin, plays a major part of When
Snow Falls. Music becomes the bridge between the past and present. Music is
also the medium through which the father tries to communicate his love to his
daughter. The thousand-year old theme Three Variations of the Plum Blossom that
is featured in the film has a special meaning and purpose. Can music transcend
death?
The film challenges us to imagine what we cannot see. Just like the main character
senses a message from another past when snow falls outside her window, I hope
my film will challenge audiences to experience more than what meets the eye, both
in art and in life.

This is a beautiful and well crafted short film. I appreciate the introspective nature of the film and space it allows to soak in the moments. Beautifully shot, well mixed sound, moving story, a fantastic film.
