Benjamin Lopez is an award winning filmmaker, equipped with a generous portfolio of feature films, television commercials, and music videos. He is most acclaimed for being the first director in Puerto Rico to exhibit a feature film in a wide theatrical release, shot on high definition. Benjamin is a comprehensively talented director, who has earned the respect of the independent film community for having written, shot, directed and edited his first two feature films. Benjamin's directorial debut was the adventure-drama "TAINOS" which is a social and historical exploration of the lost indian tribe that contributed significantly to the cultural foundation of Puerto Rico. After "TAINOS" Benjamin made a creative transition to comedy with the ensemble Puerto Rican hit "MI VERANO CON AMANDA," which also premiered theatrically in Puerto Rico. With these two features, Benjamin became a pioneer for self distribution, not only by distributing both of his films worldwide, but by creating the first online distribution vehicle for independent Puerto Rican films. www.CineIsla.com was launched in 2007 and has since garnered a catalog of over 20 impressive films, all shot and produced in Puerto Rico. In 2007, he was the Director of Photography for the original made-for-television Telemundo feature "ANTES DE LAS ONCE" which was aired by Telemundo-Puerto Rico on November 22, 2007. Benjamin recently relocated to Los Angeles to add a West Coast venue to his Puerto Rican based production company; Innova Entertainment Inc.. Here he has established a full slate of projects, which includes a dramedy slated to begin production in 2010 as well as the development of a television pilot targeted to garner and entertain the growing Latino population. Benjamin Lopez was born June 16, 1974 in East Chicago, Indiana. He spent the first 5 years of his life in Indiana and then moved to Puerto Rico with his mother and brother. Here, Benjamin grew up in his father's hometown of Comerio, where he graduated from high school in 1992. In 1992, Benjamin began his university studies at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications with a concentration on television production. While continuing his studies, he gained practical experience as an audiovisual technician at the production company Stage Crew, Inc. for 2 years. Since then Benjamin has been working as a freelance director and videographer, directing works such as “Manati: El Secreto Mejor Guardado” (documentary) “La Mentira” (music video for the rock band “Niño Planeta") among other diverse productions. In 2004 Benjamin launched the Puerto Rican based production company Innova Entertainment, Inc. with his business partner Eduardo Correa. Innova focuses on innovative and quality driven film, television, and new media productions.
