Carol Liu

Carol Liu (writer/director/producer) was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and spent many formative summers in China during her childhood. She graduated from Stanford University, where she received the Chappell Lougee Scholarship and majored in English Creative Writing. She later studied writing and directing at New York University’s MFA Graduate Film Program, where she was selected for the Dalio Family Foundation Scholarship, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences MFA Internship Grant and the Tisch Scholarship. Since 2001, she has made over thirteen short films, which have screened internationally at festivals such as the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, Beijing International Movie Festival, DC Asian Pacific Film Festival, International Water and Film Event, among others. She lives between the US and China.

Carol's latest film is a feature-length documentary about the hopes and adversities of a rural community in northwestern China and a selfless eye doctor who tries to make a difference there. Visit www.restoringthelight.com for more information.
