A true story of an incestuous relationship between two brothers in 1970's Ohio.

Synopsis

Paul is being asked by an interviewer to tell a story he's never been able to tell before -- how, when he was ten years old, he and his brother began having sex. And how it continued for two years until his brother went away to college. "Brotherly" is based on the true story of two brothers in the 1970's who grew up in an incestuous relationship. The youngest (Paul) is a bed-wetter but is never able to get care of comfort from his parents, who spend most of their nights passed out drunk. Instead, it is his older brother Michael who comes to the rescue time and time again. One night, their relationship turns sexual. And in a house devoid of any real emotion, the child's hero worship for his brother leads him to seek out comfort any way he can. Paul, now a gay man in his 40's, is finally ready to talk about his brother and his experience.

Too superficial for such a heavy topic. With little background or character development, this filmette makes little impact. The IDEA of incest is startling in itself, and this story adds little to the discomfort it inspires.

Very touching. Was a bit surprised that a 16 year old would do this to a 10 year old brother, but I guess life happens.

Excellent little film. I wish I could show it in college classes as a jumping off point for discussion. It would force people to move beyond their stereotypes.

This made me cry. It was really touching! But I did wonder what happened to the younger brother after the elder left. How could they be so close and then the elder just blocked it all out? They loved each other and should have talked about it.

I applaud the filmmaker's courage. But this was not a story in the pure sense. film (dramatic narrative) should tell a story. Maybe it would have been a good idea to focus a bit more on the youngest brother's life as it has been affected my the experience. As it is, the film is nothing more than a confession or a revelation. Much more could have been done with this film.

I am a straight 59 yr old father of 4 terrific sons. I love my sons very much & they in return have each thanked me for being an honest, good parent. I've loss 2 gay cousins to AIDS & my uncle(their father) was ashamed & difficult as the father in this short film. Love your children, support your children this life is already tough enough.

Although disturbing in a "this is a real problem" kind of way, I felt this film had no end game. Okay, so we are told of this particular story, so what now? What was the purpose of the film? Bring awareness? Tell one story? I think this film missed the mark a bit.

Very touching film, thought provoking. I gave it a 5 because it really hit the heart of a tough subject in 11 minutes, not melodramatic, preachy, nor strident.
