"Coming Out," a youth-produced video, deftly illuminates the impact of heterosexism and homophobia on the identities of queer youth. The video was produced by a team of queer and straight young women as a part of the Reel Grrls program in Seattle, Washington. Reel Grrls partners teen girls with women media professionals who teach them digital filmmaking in order to create self-affirming media images about teen identity. As the video was conceived and produced by teens, it is a fresh and humorous approach that encourages audiences to examine previously held prejudices in a non-threatening manner.
