2020 Review - It's been quite a year!

Continuing Our Mission to Change The World Through Film.

New Poster Art Horizontal 3-2 2

JANUARY

First Screenings of The Upstanders

Our third film in Indieflix’s Mental Health Trilogy, The Upstanders, is a powerful documentary about resilience and the power of connection to end bullying. Arriving right before Covid glued us even closer to our devices, The Upstanders has helped young people reflect on and change their own behavior, as well as giving the strength to speak up to those who suffer in silence.

Everyone knows bullying is a problem.  But now I see it as a crisis.  I know everyone is always talking about Global Warming, but bullying is really the biggest issue we are facing right now, and an issue that I feel I can actually make a difference with.”

MARCH

Premiere of Nevertheless

Teaming up again with Empowerment Project Director, Sarah Moshman we go behind the #MeToo and Time’s Up headlines to the heart-breaking and stirring stories of women who refuse to be victims. We follow 20-year, intimate stories of 7 individuals who have experienced and fought sexual harassment in the workplace or at school. From a writer’s assistant on a top TV show to a Tech CEO and 911 dispatcher, the film shines a light on how we can shift our culture to end harassment together. In December we were honored to have Tarana Burke, founder of the #MeToo Movement, join Director Sarah Moshman for a powerful discussion following a live screening with the 3% Conference.

"I can count on one hand the number of times a documentary film has truly moved me. Sarah Moshman’s 'Nevertheless' highlights #MeToo in a way that hasn’t been done on film, and creates a transcendent experience for all who watch it. Bravo!”

MARCH

Virtual Delivery

Covid-19 wiped out all Indieflix’s in-person screenings overnight. Within a week we completely transformed how we reached communities, using our streaming capabilities to deliver dedicated virtual screenings. Not only could schools, corporations and community leaders deliver the film to each audience member’s device, we were also able to follow the film with panel discussions and Q&A. Since March we have helped to support over 75 virtual screenings in more than 10 countries, streaming to small schools as well as globally-based conferences to raise awareness. Pandemic pressures have made the mental health trilogy,  Angst, LIKE & The Upstanders a critical mental health resource for both students and professionals, and virtual delivery has proved to be a stress-reducing way to engage, and start the conversation to get support.

OCTOBER

'RACE' in Production

2020 opened the world's eyes to this country's systemic and pervasive racial inequality. In a year where depression, anxiety have sky-rocketed, understanding has increased about the intense toll that race and racism has on mental health. RACE will address this head-on. As with our other films, RACE will engage through individual stories and experiences, exploring effective ways to examine our unconscious beliefs, and disrupt our own behavior, so that we can shift the trajectory now, and into the future with hope and possibility. Appropriate for ages 10 and up, it will screen in community format to schools and corporations, together with panel discussions and follow-up curriculum. Produced and directed by Scilla Andreen and the Indieflix team, the target premiere date is October 2021.

ALL YEAR

2020 Partnerships

The Indieflix Foundation remained committed to bringing our films to underserved communities, underwriting screenings for PACER National Bullying Prevention Center, Common Sense Media, and both the American and International School Counselor Associations. We continued to attract influential and insightful panelists for our post screening discussion panels, from organizations that include Child Mind Institute, SHRM, the NFL, UT Health and the National Association of School Psychologists. This Friday, December 18th, we are thrilled to announce  the launch of the ‘Kids in the Spotlight’ channel on Indieflix Streaming service, screening 70 professionally-made films written, acted in and produced by youth in the LA Foster system.
